Mickey Thomas was one of Wrexham’s great crowd favourites: a winger with flair, edge and a gift for big moments. He came through locally, had two spells with the club, and across them made 349 competitive appearances and scored 43 goals for Wrexham. He helped win the Third Division title in 1977/78, then returned later for the most famous moment of all: the free-kick equaliser against Arsenal in the 1992 FA Cup giant-killing before Steve Watkin scored the winner. More than statistics, Thomas came to represent Wrexham’s defiance and personality, which is why he remains one of the club’s most iconic figures.
