Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds changed Wrexham from a well-supported lower-league club into a global football story. Their takeover was approved in late 2020 and completed in February 2021, with the pair investing heavily while giving the club far more international visibility through Welcome to Wrexham. The results were dramatic: under their ownership Wrexham won promotion in 2023, again in 2024, and reached the Championship in 2025, becoming the first club in England’s top five divisions to achieve three straight promotions. Off the pitch, revenue surged too, with the club reporting record turnover of £33.3 million for 2024/25.
