Andy Morrell’s Wrexham story was about goals, graft and a rare second act. In his first spell, he exploded in 2002/03 with 34 league goals as Wrexham finished third in the Third Division and won promotion, one of the club’s best modern individual scoring seasons. He later returned in 2010 and then stepped up as player-manager in 2011, leading Wrexham to the Conference Premier play-off semi-finals in 2011/12 and the FA Trophy win in 2013. Across his two spells, he scored 65 league goals for the club and still holds Wrexham’s record for most goals by one player in a single game: seven against Merthyr Tydfil in 2000.
