Andy Morrell’s Wrexham story was about goals, graft and two different eras at the club. He first played for Wrexham from 1998 to 2003, exploding in 2002/03 with 34 league goals — one of the great scoring seasons in the club’s modern history — before moving to Coventry City. He later returned in 2010 and then stepped up as player-manager, guiding Wrexham to the 2012 FA Trophy final and the 2011/12 Conference Premier play-off semi-finals. Across his two spells, he scored 65 league goals for the club, and he still holds Wrexham’s record for most goals by one player in a single match: seven against Merthyr Tydfil in 2000.
