Joey Jones became a Wrexham legend across three spells at the Racecourse Ground, first emerging from the club’s youth system in 1973; a fiercely committed left-back renowned for his energy, tackling and connection with supporters, Jones helped Wrexham reach the 1974 FA Cup quarter-finals before joining Liverpool, where he won major domestic and European honours; he returned to Wrexham in 1978 and became an important figure as the club competed in the Second Division and enjoyed memorable European campaigns, later returning for a final spell in the 1980s; with more than 450 Wrexham appearances and 72 Wales caps, his passion and loyalty made him one of the club’s most beloved players.
