Joey Jones was one of Wrexham’s defining figures: local, combative and woven into the club across decades. He had three spells as a player, helped Wrexham win the Welsh Cup in 1975 and was part of the side that reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in 1974, still one of the club’s landmark runs. He later returned again and stayed closely involved off the pitch, coaching and even serving briefly as caretaker manager in 2001. That long bond is why he was often seen as “Mr Wrexham” — not just a former player, but a symbol of the club’s identity and pride.
