Arfon Griffiths was one of Wrexham’s greatest ever figures: a local midfielder who became the heartbeat of the club’s most successful era. Across two spells as a player, he made a club-record 721 competitive appearances and scored 143 goals, then later managed Wrexham to the Third Division title in 1977/78. He was central to promotions in 1962/63 and 1969/70, helped the club win multiple Welsh Cups and played in the famous 1975/76 European Cup Winners’ Cup run to the quarter-finals. More than any single achievement, Griffiths came to embody Wrexham itself, which is why he remains one of the club’s defining legends.
