Brian Flynn’s Wrexham story was unusually deep because he mattered as both player and manager. He joined as a midfielder in 1988, made 131 competitive appearances and then stepped up as manager in November 1989. In charge for nearly 12 years, he became one of the longest-serving managers in the Football League and led Wrexham through one of their most memorable modern eras. Under Flynn, the club won promotion in 1992/93, claimed three Welsh Cups, and produced famous FA Cup giant-killings against Arsenal in 1992 and West Ham in 1997. More than anything, Flynn gave Wrexham stability, personality and belief.
