Wrexham’s 2005 Football League Trophy win was one of the brightest moments in a difficult era. On 10 April 2005 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, Denis Smith’s side beat Southend United 2–0 after extra time, with Juan Ugarte scoring in the 99th minute and Darren Ferguson adding the second late on. It was significant not just because it delivered silverware, but because it was Wrexham’s first ever win in a national cup final. In the middle of financial turmoil and administration, the triumph gave supporters a rare day of celebration and became one of the club’s most cherished modern achievements.
