Billy Wright is one of the greatest figures in Wolves history. A one-club man, he played for Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1939 to 1959 and captained the side through its post-war golden era. He led Wolves to the 1949 FA Cup and three First Division titles in the 1950s, and is still regarded by the club as its most famous player. He was also a giant for England: the first footballer in the world to win 100 full international caps, finishing with 105, including 90 as captain. Calm, consistent and authoritative, Wright became the symbol of Stan Cullis’s great Wolves side.
