Graham Turner became a crucial figure in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ revival after taking charge in 1986, when the club had fallen into the Fourth Division following financial crisis and three successive relegations; building his side around the devastating strike partnership of Steve Bull and Andy Mutch, Turner guided Wolves to the Fourth Division title and Sherpa Van Trophy in 1987–88, including a 2–0 Wembley victory over Burnley, before securing a second consecutive promotion in 1988–89 by winning the Third Division; he subsequently established Wolves in the Second Division and remained manager until 1994, with his role in rescuing the club from its darkest period securing his place in Molineux history.
