Mike Bailey became a Wolverhampton Wanderers legend after joining from Charlton Athletic in 1966, developing into the inspirational captain and midfield heartbeat of a strong Wolves side; renowned for his leadership, work rate, tackling and intelligent passing, Bailey helped the club win promotion to the First Division in 1966–67, reach the 1972 UEFA Cup final and, most memorably, captained Wolves to victory in the 1974 League Cup final, beating Manchester City 2–1 at Wembley; he made more than 400 appearances during over a decade at Molineux and also earned two England caps, with his consistency and captaincy establishing him as one of the defining figures of Wolves’ successful 1970s era.
