Wolves’ 1974 League Cup win was one of the club’s great modern triumphs. In the final at Wembley on 2 March 1974, they beat Manchester City 2–1 in front of 97,886 fans. Kenny Hibbitt put Wolves ahead early, Colin Bell equalised for City, and John Richards scored the winner late on. The victory gave Wolves their first major trophy since the 1960 FA Cup and was a big reward for a strong side featuring Richards, Derek Dougan and captain Mike Bailey. It remains one of the standout moments of Wolves’ 1970s era.
