Bobby Moore is widely regarded as West Ham’s greatest-ever player. An elegant, intelligent centre-back, he came through the club in the 1950s, captained the side for much of the 1960s, and made 646 appearances across 16 seasons for the Hammers. With West Ham, he won the 1964 FA Cup and the 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup. He then became immortal in English football by captaining England to World Cup glory in 1966. West Ham’s own tributes describe him as “the greatest,” and his status is underlined by the club retiring the No. 6 shirt in his honour in 2008.
