Cyrille Regis became a West Bromwich Albion legend after joining from non-league Hayes in 1977, developing into one of English football’s most powerful and exciting centre-forwards; alongside Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson, Regis formed part of the celebrated “Three Degrees” under manager Ron Atkinson, helping Albion finish third in the First Division in 1978–79 and impress in European competition; renowned for his strength, pace and spectacular shooting, he scored 112 goals in 297 appearances for the Baggies and won five England caps, while his success in the face of horrific racist abuse made him an inspirational figure far beyond football before he joined Coventry City in 1984.
