Tommy Mooney was a major Watford figure in the late 1990s and early 2000s. A committed forward, he became known for work rate, leadership and important goals during Graham Taylor’s second spell. He played a key part in Watford’s back-to-back promotions in 1998 and 1999, helping take the club from the third tier to the Premier League. In the 1999–2000 Premier League season, Mooney was one of Watford’s main attacking outlets and scored memorable top-flight goals, including against Liverpool at Anfield. He remains fondly remembered as a tough, honest and reliable Watford cult hero.
