Luther Blissett became a Watford legend after coming through the club’s youth system, emerging as the prolific spearhead of Graham Taylor’s remarkable rise through the divisions; his goals helped the Hornets climb from the Fourth Division to the First Division, and in 1982–83 he scored 27 league goals, finishing as the First Division’s leading scorer as Watford remarkably finished runners-up to Liverpool; Blissett subsequently joined AC Milan before returning to Vicarage Road, eventually enjoying three spells with Watford and becoming the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 186 goals, while also holding the club appearance record with 503 matches, securing his status as one of the greatest players in Watford history.
