Joe Ledley (2005–2018) was a steady, tactical midfielder for Wales, winning 77 caps and scoring 4 goals. Often used as the “glue” in Chris Coleman’s side, he prioritised positioning, simple ball retention, and covering runs to balance more adventurous teammates. Ledley’s defining international stretch came at Euro 2016: selected despite returning from a leg fracture shortly before the tournament, he played all six matches, featuring in the run to the semi-finals (including Belgium in the quarters). In the opener vs Slovakia he came on as a substitute, then started key knockout games such as Northern Ireland.
