Ivor Allchurch (1929–1997) was one of Wales’ defining post-war internationals, earning 68 caps and scoring 23 goals between 1950 and 1966. An elegant inside-forward nicknamed the “Golden Boy of Welsh football,” he combined close control, passing craft, and a knack for decisive moments. Allchurch was central to Wales’ qualification for their only men’s World Cup finals in 1958, scoring in both legs of the play-off against Israel, then featuring throughout the tournament and scoring against Mexico as Wales reached the quarter-finals. His cap total stood as a Welsh record until 1986.
