Wales’ Euro 2016 run became their greatest modern tournament. Drawn in Group B, they opened with a 2–1 win over Slovakia (Bale free-kick), then narrowly lost 2–1 to England before dismantling Russia 3–0 to top the group. In the last 16, they edged Northern Ireland 1–0 via an own goal forced by Bale’s cross. The quarter-final was the classic: a 3–1 comeback against Belgium, driven by Ramsey’s creativity and goals from Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes. Wales’ dream ended in the semi-finals, losing 2–0 to Portugal without suspended Ramsey.
