Wales’ 1–0 win over Ukraine in Cardiff on 5 June 2022 was the World Cup qualifying play-off final that sent them to their first men’s World Cup since 1958. The decisive moment came on 34 minutes when Gareth Bale’s free-kick was diverted into the net by Andriy Yarmolenko (initially logged as an own goal, later credited to Bale after review). Ukraine created chances, but Wayne Hennessey produced a string of saves as Wales defended deep under pressure to hold on.
