Eric Wynalda was one of the defining U.S. men’s national team attackers of the 1990s. He earned 106 caps and scored 34 goals for the USMNT, retiring as the program’s all-time leading scorer. He played in three World Cups—1990, 1994, and 1998—and became especially memorable for his free-kick goal against Switzerland at the 1994 World Cup, one of the iconic early moments in modern U.S. soccer. Beyond goals, he brought edge and swagger to a team still establishing itself internationally. Wynalda was later inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2004.
