Earnie Stewart was one of the most important players in modern U.S. men’s national team history. He won 101 caps between 1990 and 2004, scored 17 goals, and was one of the few Americans to play in three World Cups: 1994, 1998, and 2002. He is especially remembered for scoring the winning goal against Colombia at the 1994 World Cup, a result that helped the USA reach the knockout stage for the first time in decades. Stewart was known for intelligence, versatility, and consistency rather than flash. He was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.
