Jürgen Klinsmann was the United States men’s national team head coach from July 2011 to November 2016. He led the U.S. to the 2014 World Cup round of 16, won the 2013 Concacaf Gold Cup, and guided the team to fourth place at Copa América Centenario in 2016. His tenure also included notable wins at Italy and Mexico’s Estadio Azteca, both historic results for the program. Klinsmann pushed a more ambitious, internationally minded vision for U.S. Soccer, which made him influential but also divisive. His time ended after a poor start to the final round of 2018 World Cup qualifying.
