Cobi Jones was one of the most durable and recognizable players in United States men’s national team history. A tireless wide midfielder, he combined speed, work rate, and consistency rather than flashy numbers. From 1992 to 2004, he earned a U.S. men’s record 164 caps and scored 15 goals. He played in three World Cups—1994, 1998, and 2002—and was part of the 2002 team that reached the quarterfinals. Jones also won the 2002 Concacaf Gold Cup and became a major face of U.S. soccer during the sport’s rise in the 1990s and early 2000s. He entered the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2011.
