Maurice Edu was a useful and versatile player for the United States in the late 2000s and early 2010s. He won 46 caps and scored 1 goal, playing mainly as a defensive midfielder but also filling in at centre-back when needed. He was part of the U.S. squads for the 2008 Olympics and the 2010 World Cup, and is especially remembered for the goal against Slovenia at the 2010 World Cup that was controversially disallowed. Edu brought athleticism, composure, and flexibility rather than star power, making him an important squad player during that era of the USMNT.
