Martin Chivers was Spurs’ lethal No.9 of the late 1960s and 1970s—powerful, direct, and one of the club’s great finishers. Signed from Southampton in 1968, he became the focal point of the attack, scoring relentlessly with either foot and in the air. Chivers netted 174 goals in 367 games for Tottenham and was especially deadly in Europe, where his goals drove the club’s 1972 UEFA Cup triumph (he scored twice in the final) and the 1974 UEFA Cup run to the final. A knee injury later curtailed his peak, but his goal record and big-game strikes make him a Spurs legend.
