Tottenham’s most recent League Cup (EFL Cup) triumph came in 2008, ending a nine-year trophy drought. Spurs beat Chelsea 2–1 after extra time at Wembley. Didier Drogba put Chelsea ahead, but Dimitar Berbatov equalised from the penalty spot. In extra time, Jonathan Woodgate headed the winner. It was a landmark moment under Juande Ramos and secured European qualification. Their previous win was in 1999, when Spurs defeated Leicester City 1–0 at Wembley, with Allan Nielsen scoring the winner. Those two victories remain the club’s only League Cup titles in the Premier League era, and the 2008 success is still remembered as a turning point in modern Spurs history.
