Brendan Rodgers managed Swansea City from 2010 to 2012, guiding the club into the top flight for the first time since 1983 by winning the 2011 Championship play-off final 4–2 against Reading at Wembley; building on Swansea’s possession-based philosophy, Rodgers created an attractive, technically accomplished side featuring Leon Britton, Ashley Williams, Scott Sinclair and Joe Allen, with Sinclair scoring a hat-trick in the play-off final; Swansea then impressed in their first Premier League season, finishing 11th while earning widespread praise for their passing football and memorable home victories over Arsenal and Manchester City; Rodgers’ success at the Liberty Stadium led to his appointment as Liverpool manager in 2012.
