Michu became a cult hero at Swansea City A.F.C. after an extraordinary debut season in English football. Signed from Rayo Vallecano in 2012 for a relatively small fee, the Spanish attacking midfielder quickly became one of the Premier League’s surprise stars because of his intelligent movement, technical quality and clinical finishing. During the 2012–13 season, Michu scored 22 goals in all competitions and helped Swansea achieve the greatest success in the club’s history by winning the League Cup under Michael Laudrup. Swansea defeated Bradford City 5–0 in the final at Wembley Stadium to claim the club’s first major trophy and qualify for European competition. Although injuries shortened his peak years, Michu remains one of the most loved players ever to represent Swansea because of the joy and excitement he brought to supporters.
