Alan Curtis became a Swansea City legend through a remarkable association with the club spanning several decades as player, coach and caretaker manager; the skilful Welsh forward was a key figure in John Toshack’s extraordinary rise through the divisions, helping Swansea reach the First Division in 1981 and scoring in their famous 5–1 victory over Leeds United on the opening day; across three playing spells, Curtis made more than 400 appearances for the Swans, while later serving the club in numerous coaching roles and several times as caretaker manager, including during their Premier League years, making him one of the most respected and enduring figures in Swansea City history.
