Niall Quinn is a modern Sunderland AFC icon: a towering, selfless centre-forward signed in 1996 (then club-record £1.3m). He made 200+ league appearances, scoring 60+ goals, and became the perfect foil for Kevin Phillips—winning headers, linking play and creating space as Sunderland surged back to the top flight. He also has the distinction of being the first scorer at the Stadium of Light. After retiring, he returned as a leader off the pitch, fronting the Drumaville Consortium and serving as chairman.
