Darren Bent was a key goalscorer for Sunderland AFC, arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2009 for a club-record fee and making an instant impact by scoring on debut. In 2009–10 he smashed 24 league goals—around half of Sunderland’s total—earning Player of the Year and spearheading their attack at the Stadium of Light. His spell is remembered for ruthless box finishing and the infamous “beach ball” goal vs Liverpool, before leaving for Aston Villa in January 2011.
