Peter Thorne was an important Stoke City striker in the early 2000s. Strong, hard-working and an instinctive finisher, he became a key part of Guðjón Þórðarson’s side. Thorne played a major role in Stoke’s promotion to the First Division in 2001–02, scoring regularly as the club adjusted to life at the newly opened Britannia Stadium. His goals helped Stoke win the play-off final against Brentford in Cardiff. Although injuries later affected his career, Thorne remains fondly remembered as a committed forward from a key promotion era.
