Eric Skeels is one of Stoke City’s greatest servants and the club’s record appearance holder. A dependable full-back, he played more than 590 matches for Stoke City FC between 1959 and 1976. Skeels was a key figure during Tony Waddington’s successful era, helping Stoke establish themselves in the First Division and win the 1972 League Cup. Known for consistency, professionalism and reliability rather than glamour, he became hugely respected at the Victoria Ground. His longevity and loyalty made him one of the defining Stoke players of the post-war period.
