Lou Macari managed Stoke City FC during the early 1990s and played a major role in rebuilding the club after difficult years. Macari led Stoke to the 1992 Football League Trophy at Wembley, beating Stockport County, and followed that by winning promotion from the Third Division in 1992–93. His side included players such as Mark Stein, Nigel Gleghorn and Vince Overson. Organised, determined and hard-working, Macari’s Stoke restored pride and momentum at the Victoria Ground, making him a popular managerial figure among supporters.
