Rory Delap became one of Stoke City’s most famous modern players because of his extraordinary long throw-ins. Under Tony Pulis, Delap’s throws became a major attacking weapon, effectively acting like corners and causing chaos for Premier League defences. Beyond the throws, Delap was a committed, energetic midfielder who helped Stoke establish themselves in the Premier League after promotion in 2008. His deliveries created numerous goals and became strongly associated with the intimidating atmosphere at the Britannia Stadium. He remains a cult hero and a symbol of Stoke’s direct, physical and difficult-to-play-against identity during the late 2000s.
