Liam Buckley was one of the most important figures in St Patrick’s Athletic’s modern history, both as a player and as a manager. He won the league as a player in 1995–96, then returned to manage the club in two spells, delivering league titles in 1998–99 and 2013. His second spell was especially significant, bringing an FAI Cup in 2014, League Cups in 2015 and 2016, plus the President’s Cup and Leinster Senior Cup in 2014. More than the trophies, Buckley was associated with attractive, passing football and helped shape one of the club’s strongest modern sides.
