Jim Goodwin’s St Mirren story has two chapters: player and manager. As manager, he was appointed in June 2019 on a three-year deal and quickly made the club hard to beat, prioritising shape, work-rate and set-piece threat. He steered Saints to Premiership safety in 2019–20, then pushed them into the top half the next season (7th, their best top-flight finish in over 30 years) and took them to two domestic cup semi-finals in 2020–21. In February 2022 he left after Aberdeen triggered his release clause, with St Mirren sitting in the top six at the time.
