Jim Goodwin became a hugely influential St Mirren figure after joining in 2011, with the combative midfielder’s leadership and determination making him club captain and a firm supporters’ favourite; his defining moment came in 2013, when he captained Saints to a famous 3–2 League Cup Final victory over Hearts, lifting the club’s first major trophy in 26 years, before later returning as manager in 2019 and establishing St Mirren as a competitive Premiership side, giving him an important place in the club’s modern history as both player and manager.
