Sir Alex Ferguson managed St Mirren from 1974 to 1978, transforming the club from a struggling Second Division side into Scottish First Division champions. Appointed at just 32, he revitalized the squad with young, hungry players and an attacking philosophy. In the 1976–77 season, St Mirren won the Scottish First Division title, earning promotion to the Premier Division for the first time. Ferguson’s Saints played exciting, high-tempo football and produced future stars like Tony Fitzpatrick and Billy Stark. Despite his success, his tenure ended abruptly in 1978 after a dispute with the board — the only time he was ever sacked in his career.
