James Ward-Prowse was one of Southampton’s defining modern players and the club’s midfield leader for more than a decade. A product of the academy, he played for Saints from 2011 to 2023, making 410 appearances in all competitions and 344 league appearances, scoring 55 goals overall and 49 in the league. He became captain, set the tempo in midfield, and was known above all for elite dead-ball delivery. By the time he left, he had scored 17 direct Premier League free-kicks, just one behind David Beckham’s competition record, and had also broken Southampton’s Premier League appearance record. Calm, durable, and technically outstanding, he became a modern Saints symbol.
