Alan Shearer’s Southampton spell (1988–1992) was where the legend started. A local boy from Newcastle, he joined Saints as a teenager and exploded in April 1988 with an incredible debut: a hat-trick against Arsenal after coming on as a sub. He wasn’t an instant week-to-week starter at first, but he developed fast—strong, direct, and already a ruthless finisher. By 1991–92 he’d become one of the league’s brightest young strikers, scoring regularly and bullying defenders with power and movement. His rise earned a then-British-record move to Blackburn Rovers in 1992.
