Matt Le Tissier is regarded as one of Southampton’s greatest-ever players, spending his entire professional league career with the Saints from 1986 to 2002 and scoring 209 goals in 540 appearances; nicknamed “Le God,” the attacking midfielder became famous for extraordinary technique, long-range goals, creativity and remarkable penalty-taking, scoring 47 of his 48 spot-kicks for the club; Le Tissier repeatedly produced crucial goals that helped Southampton survive in the Premier League, won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 1990, and scored the final competitive goal at The Dell in 2001, a fitting farewell to the ground where he became a club legend.
