Ronald Koeman’s Southampton spell, from 2014 to 2016, was one of the club’s strongest modern managerial periods. He took over after Mauricio Pochettino’s exit and kept Southampton highly competitive despite a major player exodus. In his first season, Saints finished seventh in the Premier League with a club-record 60 points, then improved again to sixth in 2015–16 with a new club-record 63 points. Southampton also built one of the league’s best defences under him, conceding only 41 goals in 2015–16. Koeman gave the team structure, resilience, and ambition, making his reign one of the high points of Southampton’s Premier League era.
