Mick Channon was one of Southampton’s greatest ever players and remains the club’s record goalscorer. Across two spells, from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1979 to 1982, he scored 228 goals for Saints and made 608 appearances, the second-highest total in club history. He was a quick, energetic forward, famous for his finishing and his trademark windmill goal celebration. Channon was also a central figure in Southampton’s 1976 FA Cup-winning side, helping the club claim its first major trophy. More than the numbers, he became one of the defining faces of Southampton in the 1970s and early 1980s.
