Southampton’s 2012 promotion completed a remarkable rise under Nigel Adkins. After winning promotion from League One in 2011, Saints went straight up again in 2011–12, finishing second in the Championship with 88 points, just one behind Reading. Promotion was secured on 28 April 2012 with a 4–0 home win over Coventry City at St Mary’s. Rickie Lambert was the main scorer with 27 league goals, while players like Adam Lallana, José Fonte, Jack Cork, and Kelvin Davis were central to a side that mixed attacking quality with momentum and belief. It was Southampton’s return to the Premier League after seven years away.
