Seamus Coleman is one of the greatest players Sligo Rovers have produced, even though his time there was brief. The Donegal native joined from St Catherine’s in 2006 after impressing in a friendly against Rovers, and he developed quickly into a first-team right-back. He made 56 league appearances and scored once before Everton signed him in January 2009 for a fee widely reported as £60,000. Coleman was part of the Sligo squad that won the 2008 League Cup and FAI Cup, although he missed a penalty in the cup final shootout. In simple terms, Sligo was the launchpad for an exceptional career.
