Pat Fenlon was one of the defining figures of Shelbourne’s modern success, both as a player and a manager. As a midfielder, he helped Shels win the 1999–2000 league and cup double, and he scored the winning goal in the FAI Cup final replay against Bohemians. He then became player-manager in 2002 and led Shelbourne to three league titles in 2003, 2004 and 2006, including the club’s first back-to-back championships. Fenlon also guided Shels on a landmark European run in 2004, reaching the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, a major achievement for an Irish club.
