Mark Coyle was a big part of Shelbourne’s recent rise. The Donegal midfielder joined from Finn Harps in December 2021 after winning Harps’ Player of the Year award, and he quickly became a key figure at Tolka Park. He was named club captain for the 2024 season and led Shelbourne to the League of Ireland title, becoming the first Donegal-born captain to lift the league trophy. Tough-tackling and reliable, Coyle was valued more for control, work rate and leadership than flashy numbers. He left Shelbourne for Coleraine in January 2026, but his place in Shels’ title-winning story is secure.
